Google Cybersecurity Essentials Course (suggested for low-vision)

In today’s highly connected world, having an understanding of cybersecurity concepts is increasingly important. The Cybersecurity Essentials course provides an introduction to cybersecurity terminology, principles, and concepts. No degree or experience is required. 

Course timeline: 6 weeks to complete at 2 hrs. a week 

Accessibility: This course contains matching exercises that are not compatible with screen readers. Google has been notified of the accessibility issue. This course is currently recommended for low-vision participants who can complete the activities using screen magnification.

NOTE: 1 Scholarship per person via NSITE is for 1 year. After the year expires, you will be required to pay Coursera the $49.99 per month to complete the course. 

What you'll learn 

• Introduction to cybersecurity terminology,  
• Introduction to cybersecurity principles,  
• Introduction to cybersecurity concepts.  
• Throughout the course, you will cover six security domains, business continuity and disaster response planning topics.  
• The course includes a series of instructor-led demonstrations to provide real-life examples of cybersecurity tasks in action 

Coursework: 6-week series 

Week 1 - Introduction to Cybersecurity -2 hour 

Week 2- Laws, Policies, and Frameworks -2 hours 

Week 3 - Threats, Attacks, and Vulnerabilities - 3 hours 

Week 4 - Cybersecurity Defenses -6 hours 

Week 5 - Ensuring Organization Security -2 hours 

Week 6 – Summary and close out- 20 minutes
